Camping Report
Just a quick report on my recent trip for anyone that's interested. We left San Diego early last Thursday morning and made it to Guayaquil by noon.
Made the turn west and about 5 miles from the beach the guys in the other truck got stuck in the moon dust. 4 hours later we dug him out, turned back
to the fork in the road (20 miles back and a mile west of the rancho) and took the road to Puerto Catarina instead. Spent 4 days camped there and
loved every minute of it. Pulled in a couple a fish, spent endless hours exploring the surrounding hills on the 4 wheeler, took $10 panga rides to San
Carlos for surfing, and watched some glorious sunsets. We also brought 12 garbage bags full of clothing, kitchen supplies, toys and other items for
the fishermen and their families. We were happily surprised to find the fishermen giving us lobster for dinner. Except for the moon dust we had a
great trip, one I will never forget. The guys are already talking about the next trip, but because of time constraints we are looking for something
north. Any suggestions where we can enjoy the above mentioned activities in relative peace? Thinking about the Colonet area, any suggestions are
appreciated.

Depends on the time of year and surf
but you might take a drive out to Erendira/Punta Cabras (nice right) and sand dunes above the beach.
If you head south from there, there are incredible beaches, points and caves. Dolphins in the shore break in some areas!

Nice report. That stretch of coast is always an enjoyable place to visit, even with the stucks, flats, break-downs, etc. In fact, it almost wouldn't
be the same if you didn't have at least something go wrong. Heck, that just makes the memories all that much better!

Things just aren't what they used to be in that neck-'o-the-woods. But peace and solitude can still be found in small measure.
