My passport is in the process of being renewed, so I will have to sit this one out, very depressing. Was hoping to spectate somewhere in Baja Sur. The
peninsula runs are the best!

If you want to download the original, zoomable image of the map, click the link provided in the map post above and move your cursor over the map. A
download icon will pop up at the bottom of the map. It's a pdf file.

About 18 hours after the start, usually start about 10 AM.

Motorcycles get a head start with a few hours gap until the Trophy Trucks and the rest of the classes.
The First Trophy Truck generally stars at 10 am.
The average speed is a bit over 50 mph, so 18 or a bit less hours after 10 am is a good guess for Loreto.
Maybe be ready about 15-16 hours after the start, so 1am-2am (and after), if it is a fast race. Now rain will make mud and that could slow things
down, but the Loreto action will begin before sunrise.

Two things to look forward to....
Dakar is the penultimate major off-road race.... a week full of Baja 1000's
Don't believe everything you think....

Hi Larry,
The map shows the race heading west from Valle de la Trinidad to Hwy. 1, just south of San Vicente, then down to Colonet where it will continue to the
Pacific coast then south... No passing through Mike's or El Coyote. It will be 13 kms. south of San Vicente (at Km. 103).

10/10 road report Valley Trinidad to Hwy 1
The west slope was a bit rough, cornering ruts, rocks, etc.
East slope is more sandy and road held up better, not bad.

Looks as though the course will leave Hwy 1 at Chapala... head to Cocos... then back out through Calamuje wash to Crucero.... been quite a few years
since it ran Calamuje.

Calamajué wash was a big issue when were were helping Baja Pits at El Crucero in 2006... It was extra wet that year and there was a bottleneck with
stuck race vehicles in the mud/ creek water. I drove the entire wash road in 2012 and 2016, and you would never know a race had been through there.
The water level was also just a trickle in the road and one big puddle was all.
Previous trips using that road were in 2002, 1979, 1975, 1974, and 1967. Before 1983, it was the route of 'Hwy 5'!
The deepest water (2012).
The Jeep that followed us in 2012 that Coco warned not to go via Calamajué because of "deep water"!
Water in the road, 2016.

I went through nov. 2021... water was there but not much of an issue. The new growth makes the path very narrow at points, one of the best routes
ever!

We will be making the 7 hour mule trek to the mountain top above the San Juan mine, overlooking the Las Flores valley, Bahia de Los Angeles. Working
emergency radio relay again for BFGoodrich. We ride up the day before, set up camp, secure mules. Day two work starts mid day through the night and
into the morning. Depending on when we are released we may stay third night as it's another 7 hour ride back to the ranch. Can't wait!
