Crazy, we really like the town but might think twice if they don't get things under control.

Time to upfund the police, give them a better budget to increase their numbers, pay better salaries, buy armor and weapons, get military training,…
and stamp out the cartels!
Tax and spend for health and safety of society!
Woke!

It's never good when the criminals can intimidate the police into quitting their jobs.

It would be hard to be a "good cop" when it puts your family at risk! If the criminals are brought to their knees, it would almost surely be with the
help of a force from outside the locality.
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!
"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

"Plata o plomo", that's the deal.
IMO, peaceful co-existence is the practical approach.

So you think society should allow the organized crime to continue as usual?

When it comes to drug trafficking. What's your solution? War?

In some parts of mexico drug lords essentially took over and the police functionally abandoned the area. Basically reverting to lawless feudal
kingdoms like in somalia or afghanistan.
The solution to this requires military force, helicopter gunships, etc…
Woke!

Legalize, tax, and regulate seem the only realistic options. Like we had to do with alcohol here in the states. There may have to be a "New World"
revolution of how we deal with problems that cause transnational upheaval. Our demand has created a nightmare for the supply countries.

The first step is decriminalization. In other words, stop prosecuting the traffickers. Laws can be amended down the road.

SF&H,
That is how civilization dies! Don’t prosecute looters, arsonists, or drug dealers make deals with them! In fact let them take over law enforcement!
Not!!
Read Locke on law! You make deals like that you get thugs like Putin!

Thanks for your opinion.
BTW, I said don't prosecute drug traffickers, not all criminals.
So what do you suggest to end drug cartel violence?

What do you suggest to keep the Russians from taking over the Ukraine? It’s basically the same choice! Absolutely no one said it was easy. The
Ukrainians are up for it. The Mexicans have to be as well! For that matter so do we in the US!
Did you ever read “The Grave of a Hundred Head” by Kipling?

Yes, it's a complicated world, and too bad so many think there are simple answers to tough questions. Thinking is hard.

My priority is peace, stop the violence. It seems that "violence and drugs" or "peace and drugs" are the two options. The drugs are not going away.
It's HUGE money.
Work out a truce with the cartels.

I wondering about the blown up pipelines. We have sensors laced all through the Baltic, North Sea, and the Atlantic (IUSS), and know every sub that
may have left port in Russia. Not sure how deep, but perhaps an underwater drone operation released from a surface ship.
I would be surprised if our submarine and subsurface warfare divisions of the US Navy don't know something, maybe everything. There has to be
satellite surveillance of any ships in vicinity. Unless charges were planted months ago?
At least they blew up their own pipe, most likely. What happens if they blow up another one, that's not Russian controlled?
